Our History

Hope was founded in 1979 by 38 families. Services were at first held in Plainwell Middle School and were led by Rev. Martin Ringstrom. The name Hope was chosen for the new congregation and is actually an acronym for “Help Other People Enter.” In 1980 Hope welcomed Rev. Dennis Remenschneider to be their full time pastor. On December 7, 1986 Hope dedicated the building were we continue to worship and build disciples. Bishop Raymond Heine presided over the dedication service. In 2009 Vicar Kari Fast arrived at Hope on internship from seminary. When her internship ended in 2010 the congregation called her to be their pastor. Rev. Kari Fast served Hope from 2010 until 2021. In 2019 Hope celebrated it’s 40th anniversary. In 2022 Hope called Rev. Nicole Smith to serve as pastor. Hope continues our founding mission of building disciples of Christ for the world and sharing the love of Jesus by serving in our community through missions, outreach, and presence.
