Sin

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:8-9

Lutherans believe that all human beings have sinned and fallen short of the glory God desires for us. Sin is both the actions we commit or engage in knowing they harm, and the actions we know are good that we fail to do or ignore. Sin is both individualistic and communal. Lutherans teach that no one can erase their sin by their own efforts no matter how good they may be. To free us from enslavement to sin and it’s ripple effects God sent Jesus the Son whose life, death, and resurrection provides forgiveness from sin as a gift for all who believe.
